How Does ActiveFX Work?

ActiveFX is the latest advance in laser technology (fractional carbon dioxide laser) to restore a youthful appearance to skin that has been damaged by sun exposure and aging. It is perfect for those with a busy lifestyle, who simply can’t or don’t want to take the time for more extensive procedures involving a longer recovery – but who still want dramatic and long-lasting results. Now all this is possible, because ActiveFX combines the best of several technologies, all in one!

When you receive treatment with the ActiveFX laser, Dr. Bernard will use a high-energy beam of laser light to begin the process of regenerating and rejuvenating your skin. Unlike other laser treatments that require a long recovery phase, ActiveFX treats only a fraction of your skin’s surface, in a specially designed pattern that leaves small areas of untreated skin between the treated areas. This technique means that your skin heals faster, and you can get back to work and social activities within a very short period.

What Should I Expect During the Treatment?

We will begin, in our office, with application of a topical anesthetic cream to your face and any other areas to be treated. This cream helps to make your laser treatment comfortable and, therefore, non-stressful.

After the cream has taken effect, you will receive your laser treatment, performed personally by Dr. Bernard. A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Bernard is certified in the use of carbon dioxide lasers and has vast experience in skin resurfacing procedures.

Most patients experience only mild discomfort during the treatment. Following your treatment, your skin will exhibit some pinkness and a “freckled” appearance. You should notice the tightening effect on lax skin immediately. Over the next several days, the healing process will continue. Within a week, you can wear make-up.

There are no restrictions on your activities following treatment, except you should avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

How Long Does ActiveFX Treatment Last?

Certain effects of ActiveFX treatment, such as skin tightening, can be seen immediately. After a short healing process of just a few days, you will notice your skin looks fresher, firmer and smoother. Other improvements will continue over a period of time, usually about 6 months, as collagen beneath the skin’s surface builds.
